The Resilience4dairy project has identified the challenges faced by dairy farmers in 16 EU countries in improving the technical, economic, environmental and societal resilience of their farms. The results of this survey and the views of the 120 dairy farmers involved in R4D will be presented. Two pilot farmers, one from AURA and one from Europe, will talk about the innovations they have implemented.

Pastoral areas are breeding grounds, historically supporting a rural economy. Other uses are developing in these areas (outdoor activities, skiing, resourcing, etc.). As part of the Entr'ACTES project, sixty interviews were conducted with livestock farmers and their assistants in three different study regions (Brittany, Pays-de-la-Loire, Centre) to gain a better understanding of what it means to be a livestock farmer in 2023. The results of this survey help us to understand how farmers and their employees see their job, the satisfaction they derive from it and the difficulties they face today. This information also tells us about the place of social issues (the environment, human well-being, human-animal relations, etc.) among farmers' concerns, the changes in practices they are making or refusing to make, and their support needs. They help to identify the ways in which these social issues are difficult for some farmers to accept and share, and are a source of discomfort, or, conversely, are widely integrated and taken into account by others.

This roundtable will address various issues related to livestock feed in the context of transforming livestock farming systems in Sahel: 1/ Intensify milk production and fodder cultivation: What are the key factors in this equation? 2/ Combine livestock and fodder production as an effective approach to ensure access to livestock feed 3/ Explore the potential of agro-industrial by-products (availability and accessibility). 4/ Identify the ethical and environmental prerequisites for successful intensification.
