Information

The necessary transition of agriculture to limit environmental impact raises important questions about the practices that will allow us to feed a growing global population. While the application of agro-ecological principles has demonstrated that it is possible to produce food without relying on harmful substances, these innovative methods require more labor and precise, targeted treatments. The widespread adoption of agro-ecological practices also calls for a reevaluation of agricultural equipment in general, with a particular focus on robotics. This presentation will outline the principles and the challenges of agroecology as a viable alternative to chemical inputs in agriculture. It will then analyze the operational needs and constraints based on the desired crop management systems. This will highlight the requirements for agricultural equipment, particularly the potential of autonomous tools that go beyond simply automating current machinery. Through several examples, the presentation will emphasize the need to overcome various obstacles, not only in the fields of robotics and agronomy but also at the societal level.
