Pastoralism and landscape preservation in the Grands Sites de France
Oct 8, 2026 — 04:00 pm - 5:00 PM
Hall d'accueil - Espace rencontres
Information
This conference will highlight the strategic role of livestock farmers and pastoralism in shaping, maintaining, and enhancing the appeal of the landscapes of the Grands Sites de France. It will explore how these ancestral practices, by creating open and biodiverse environments, respond to today’s economic, climate, and societal challenges.
Through concrete examples (Cirque de Navacelles, Puy Mary, Canigou), the discussion will reveal the inseparable links between pastoralism, tourism, and landscape preservation. Participants will discover how livestock farmers, the often unseen stewards of these areas, contribute to ecosystem resilience while also helping to energize local territories.
The conference will also address the challenges ahead: land pressure, adaptation to climate change, and the coexistence of different uses. It will propose avenues for action, such as strengthening public policies, promoting cultural mediation, and fostering local cooperation, in support of sustainable and recognized pastoralism.
Speakers:
Syndicat Mixte du Puy Mary
