Oct 6, 2026 — 06:30 pm - 9:00 PM

Centre de conférence - Salle 4

Information

Is pastoralism a factor in the development of plant and animal biodiversity? Pastoralism lies at the origin of ruminant livestock farming. It has shaped our landscapes in Europe and elsewhere around the world. Is it compatible with the way we live today and will live tomorrow? Some advocate a return to a “wild” nature, allowing interspecies competition to take its course, while pastoralism has shown resilience throughout the ages and has been proven to support a form of “managed” biodiversity. What insights does research bring to this debate? Are there differences depending on the environment? What role can pastoralism play in the agroecological systems of tomorrow? With testimonies from the Massif Central and the Sahel, among others... Speakers: - Yves Michelin, agricultural engineer (PG 76) and geographer, teacher-researcher, promoter of the UNESCO recognition of the Chaîne des Puys – Limagne Fault - Sandrine Nolot, lawyer, president of France Nature Environnement of Puy-de-Dôme - Claude Font, sheep farmer in Haute-Loire The discussion will be moderated by Benoît James (APT 15), vice-president of the Agros d’Auvergne, Charolais cattle breeder and seed producer in Allier, consulting engineer
